Eligibility Guidelines

Only public charities that have received 501(c)(3) not-for-profit tax exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service are eligible. Individuals, businesses and other for-profit organizations do not qualify.

GEOGRAPHY

The geographic focus of our charitable giving is the Greater Kansas City area.

PRIMARY AREAS OF INTEREST

Programs and services impacting the lives of women and girls exclusively in the following areas are our Primary Areas of Interest:

  • Employment – Preference will be given to programs providing comprehensive employment preparation, job skills training, career transition programs, and general assistance to women seeking employment.
  • Education – Preference will be given to programs emphasizing science, technology, engineering, math, sports & fitness, and preparation for post-secondary education.
  • Life Skills – Preference will be given to programs building life skills for girls and those emphasizing financial literacy, self-sufficiency, mentoring, self-esteem and leadership.
FUNDING GUIDELINES
The Fund does not award grants for the following:

  • Annual Giving Campaigns
  • Capital Campaigns
  • Debt Reduction
  • Endowments
  • Fundraising Events and Sponsorships
  • Political activities
  • Religious purposes or programs that require religious participation

GRANT RANGE

The grants generally range in size from $10,000 to $25,000 and will rarely exceed $50,000. Multi-year grants will not be considered.

APPLICATION DEADLINE 

The SkillBuilders Fund will begin accepting 2023 Letters of Intent on Monday, May 29, 2023. Check our website throughout the year for updates on the 2023 grant funding cycle.
